Love with music...

The aura of spring entered my bedroom as I lay awake thinking of my plans for this spring. I had been waiting for a long time for it to arrive, as I would be going on a vacation with my best friend, Shreya, to Goa. I had heard it was the place of love. Although I had no plans of falling in love with a human, I sure did want to fall in love with nature and music — maybe even find myself.

As afternoon approached, Shreya called me to ask about my preparations. "So, how excited are you for this trip? After all, it is our first trip together, and that too right after our boards." It was not right after our board examinations like she said, but an year after it. "Well, words are not enough. But make sure you don't fall in love with someone there and leave me all alone!" It was just a small way of teasing each other. "Haha! No, I won't but you might." Now, I knew exactly what I would actually fall in love with, so I tried to skip anymore talk and get ready as our flight was in three hours and I had to reach the airport an hour early. When I reached the airport, it took some time to spot Shreya, and I probably would not have seen her if she was not so tall. "Aisha darling! This trip is going to be marvellous, I am telling you." There had not been a single time that she was wrong. Therefore, this trip was definitely going to be marvellous like she said.

We reached Goa at 4:00pm and headed towards our hotel. Shreya's father had booked us a resort on the banks of Calangute beach. Our rooms looked amazing and we already knew how amazing this trip was going to be. We freshened up a bit and sat on the beach chairs outside to enjoy the fresh land breeze blowing on our face. Surprisingly, some soft music was playing somewhere around us. I had already started loving the beauty of Goa, but the music made it even better.

The next morning, we both decided on going for parasailing. Although I did not expect something special to happen there, we met two boys who were our age and also on their first trip together. "Well, Goa is a place full of surprises!", I said to them. I did not know whether this was just a coincidence or fate. Probably I am reading too many books these days. Anyways, even they joined us for parasailing. I did not realise until my turn came that I was actually scared to go alone. Yet again, to my surprise Aran, one of the boys, agreed to go along with me since Shreya had already had her turn and could not go again. Once we were up in the air, I panicked. But he sang slowly into my ears to calm me down. I did not know music could calm me down, but maybe it was him singing out of the blue. Miracles truly happen in Goa. I was extremely grateful to him and so, decided to invite him over for dinner.

Shreya had apparently found a nice dinner spot where they even played music. I somehow wanted to have a feeling like I was the main character of a book and dressed up nicely in a beautiful dress which my mother had packed in case a "special time" came. "Aisha, you look gorgeous girl!", Shreya shouted out to me. "Thank you! Hopefully, I did not go overboard with this." I had no idea why, but this felt like something special and trust me, I can never explain how I was feeling at that moment when he went parasailing with me in the morning. In about an hour, we had just started with our dinner when a band came by our table and started singing and playing some beautiful music. All of a sudden, Aran asked the band to play some slow music and asked me to slow dance with him. It felt like my whole world collided at that moment. "Will you dance with me Madame?", his deep voice sounding better than any music I had ever heard before. "Yes yes yes!!", the excitement inside me could not be contained anymore. As I danced around in his arms, I felt complete. Funny how someone who you just met that day can become so important to you. I came with the intention of falling in love with nature and music but ended up falling in love with a boy and the music he brought along with him. Truly marvellous — like Shreya had said at the starting of our trip. Also, now I know meeting Aran was not just a coincidence but fate and now, he will be my destination forever.

I wrote this short story back in 2022. Today, I thought of sharing it with everyone. I'm also sharing the original writing in my notebook. Maybe someone wants to see the raw version which has several mistakes? Anyways, I hope you like it!
